Every good storyteller knows that you only have a limited amount of time to get your audience interested in your story. You can have all the gadgets and gizmos you want — without a compelling story line, they will never stay with you.
Good social media doesn’t begin with the tools. It begins with the story — the story of why your company exists. It probably didn’t start out to sell something or build something. Most likely, someone saw a need and said, “I wonder…” and did something to meet that need. Over time, the needs may have changed, and so may the answers.
But the story of any company goes back to that moment when they saw a need. That moment defined your business. It reflected your desires and dreams for your company’s future.
Most likely, your employees don’t know that story. They know your product, your service. But they have not connected to the need that began it all.
So take a minute and write up your story. Begin to share it with your employees. Make it a part of your companies culture that they know more than just what they do, but why they do it.
It will make a difference.
